Brushing & Flossing
Dr. McDaniel and the team at Ortho 99 Plus 1 want everyone to have a beautiful healthy smile. Proper brushing and flossing are essential to obtaining and maintaining the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted. Please watch these short videos for a reminder of how to properly brush, floss and take care of your braces.
Step 1: Use an inter-proximal brush to clean between each bracket, under the wire. This will help remove any large pieces of food that may be stuck in your braces.
Step 2: Use a soft or extra-soft bristled toothbrush and a small strip of fluoride toothpaste to clean all surfaces of your teeth and brackets. Tilt the toothbrush at a 45 degree angle to make sure you clean the portion of the brackets and teeth near the gums.
NOTE: While you are in orthodontic treatment, you should brush your teeth after each meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and again right before you go to bed.
Step 3: Floss between every tooth. Use the reusable floss threaders provided by our office to help get the floss under the wire.
NOTE: Flossing with braces takes more time (and patience). Flossing is an important step in proper oral hygiene because it removes plaque and food debris from between teeth. These areas cannot be cleaned properly with a toothbrush.
